Ribitz Robbery UPDATE - 1/9/12

Investigators monitoring the condition of a clerk, who was seriously wounded by gunshot in an incident of Armed Robbery at Ribitz bait and Tackle, have informed Troup County Sheriff Donny Turner that the clerk has succumbed to the injury. Thus, Sheriff Turner announces that the Armed Robbery investigation has, now, also become a Murder investigation.

According to witnesses, two black males wearing masks & dark clothing while carrying handguns, swiftly entered Ribitz Bait and Tackle (5618 West Point Road) shortly after 7 pm on 12/22/11. Once inside the store, the suspects grabbed money from the clerk and shot him once in the abdomen before quickly leaving the store.

After first responders arrived, the injured clerk was transported to receive medical treatment for the gunshot wound received during the robbery. Late Sunday evening, it was learned that the clerk had succumbed to his injury while receiving further treatment.

Consequently, Murder has now been added to Armed Robbery in the previous lookout for the two suspects wanted in this investigation. Additionally, Troup County Crime Stoppers has now increased the reward offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects to $2,500.00. Series of Entering Autos from 12/2011

Just prior to the New Year, a series of cases involving Entering Auto were reported in the vicinity of Teaver Road. Vehicles on Hill Road, Darden Road, Teaver Court, Oak Drive and Cedar Crest Road were targeted by thieves during the overnight hours as the automobiles were parked at their respective residences. Particular in those cases, dashboard consoles and glove compartment contents had been rummaged through and emptied onto the floorboard or passenger seats of the vehicle; although, nothing appeared to be missing in these instances.

Sheriff Donny Turner reminds citizens of the importance in locking your vehicle doors and securing windows when leaving them unattended overnight. Even though your vehicle may be parked inside your own carport or driveway, it makes no difference. Desperate times have forced criminals into utilizing desperate measures when it comes to acquiring property that does not belong to them. Never leave your valuables in plain view, even for an instant, when parking your vehicle at the office or grocery store. Make use of your vehicles trunk, or other compartmented areas. Ribitz Robbery Crime Stoppers Alert - 1/6/12

Shortly after 7pm, on December 22^nd, a report of an Armed Robbery at Ribitz Bait and Tackle store (on West Point Road at Lower Glass Bridge Road) was dispatched to Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies. After their arrival, they discovered that one clerk had been shot once in the abdomen by two armed assailants. According to a second clerk, the two suspects swiftly entered the store, grabbed money from the register and shot the male clerk before making their getaway. Investigators, now, need your help in solving this crime by identifying the suspects at large. TCSO Deputies dispatched to a business inside the 100 block of Corporate Park East (near LaGrange) were told by the warehouse manager there that, an unknown person(s) had entered an unsecured 1999 Isuzu Box Truck at that location.

A property owner in the 700 block of Old West Point Road reported to Deputies that unknown individuals had taken a burgundy and white (in color) 3-seater Sea Doo Jet Ski and a yellow (in color) Honda Hustler Fast Track, 21 horsepower, Zero-Turn mower with a 54” deck without his permission. Both items were being stored behind a shed located on the property. Troup County Sheriff’s Office Investigators were notified to collect evidence & identification numbers on the missing items.

Deputies responding to a report of Burglary which had already occurred, in the 500 block of Ralls Road (above Hogansville), were told by the resident that an unknown person(s) had taken various items without her permission. Among the missing items were: medication, perfume bottles, a cellphone charger, JVC Digital Camcorder, a Nikon Camera and an HP Laptop PC.

This case has, since, been turned over to Investigations. TCSO Deputies recently responded to a report of Burglary, which had already occurred, in the 6100 block of Hogansville Road. Upon arrival, the resident stated to Deputies that an unknown person(s) had allegedly removed the front door from its hinges and entered the residence. From there, it appeared that cabinets and drawers had been rummaged through. Several valuables were noted as missing from the residence. Among the items missing were: 2 TV’s, an older stove with new burners and pans & a washing machine.

Since the middle of July, a number of incidents involving Entering Autos within the Lakemont subdivision were reported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

Items taken from the vehicles in this area include a wallet, prescription medication, CD player remote, a GPS unit, an iPod Touch, designer Sunglasses & a wristwatch, a phone charger, checkbook containing checks and other miscellaneous belongings.

That being said, Sheriff Donny Turner reminds you that you should always lock your valuables in a secure environment whenever you leave them unattended for any length of time. If available, make use of your vehicle’s trunk area.

After responding to a report of Burglary, which had already occurred, Deputies met with the property owner who stated that unknown persons had forcefully entered her residence, tore through drawers and looked through a storage chest at that location.

Some of the items allegedly taken in this burglary include: one Sony Digital Camcorder, a .32 caliber revolver, an HP laptop computer and a Sony PSP.

Deputies responding to a report of Burglary in the 600 block of Stitcher Road were told by the home owner that, on arrival she noticed that a screen on her residence had been removed from its place in a bedroom window. She waited outside as the Deputies cleared the residence.

After a quick tour, she stated that several items were missing from the home. Included were: A Fujistu camera and its case, a 35 mm Pentax camera, various jewelry and an amount of loose change. The home was also found in great disarray.

Investigators were notified to collect evidence, and this case continues under investigation. Troup County Deputies responded to a report of an Armed Robbery (in progress) at the Money Back in the 2400 block of Whitesville Road. According to witnesses, three males entered the store (wearing masks) as the clerk was cleaning. Two of the subjects grabbed the clerk and forced her behind the counter with a handgun. The third male had already jumped the counter and attempted to open the cash register by himself. Once behind the counter, the men ordered the clerk to open the register. The subjects then allegedly took an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot.

Investigators arrived to collect evidence and gather video surveillance footage… Now, Sheriff Donny Turner is asking for your help in identifying those responsible for committing this alleged crime. A property owner told Deputies that unknown individuals had entered two barns by force, located behind his residence in the 3500 block of Robert Hayes Road, and took several items without permission. Among the items missing were: a black (in color) 2007 Honda Rancher 420 (four-wheeler), one Echo leaf blower, one Milwaukee black & red battery-operated Sawzall set (with two batteries), one Milwaukee drill set and a box of 12 gauge shotgun shells.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of Burglary in the 100 block of Planters Ridge. Upon arrival, the home owner alleged that unknown individuals had entered an open storage closet, through a garage door at her residence and took food from her freezer & an undisclosed amount of cash without her permission.

Troup County Crime Stoppers Report - 5/31/11

At approximately 3:18 am on Monday, May 30^th, Troup County E-911 received a report of a house fire in the 1300 block of Hines Road. After emergency responders were dispatched, they discovered 4 more fires at homes in the Mountville Community, along the way. Only one home (on Hines Road) was occupied at the time of the fires; and, no one was injured in that blaze.

Troup County Sheriff’s Office Investigators worked alongside the Troup County Fire Department and State Arson Investigators with a K-9 Unit to determine the nature of the fires. Each has since been confirmed as Arson.

Sheriff Donny Turner urges you to call the Troup County Crime Stoppers Hotline if you noticed anything suspicious in the Mountville area at the time the fires occurred. A reward of $1,000 per home is being offered through Crime Stoppers and a reward of $10,000 is being offered through the Georgia Arson Control Hotline for information leading to the arrests and convictions of those responsible for committing these crimes.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence before the 100 block of New Hutchinson Mill Road in reference to a report of Entering Auto. After their arrival, they were told by the resident of that address that someone had allegedly broken into her son’s 1995 Chevrolet Blazer. Damage to the back hatch of the vehicle was noted by Deputies.

When Investigators arrived, the resident reported that a touch screen CD/DVD combo player, a green Stanley Weed Eater, a yellow and black Wahl blower, some copper wire and several miscellaneous hand tools were missing from inside the vehicle.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence before the 100 block of Archie Lane in Pine Mountain in reference to a report of Burglary. A property owner at that address stated that an unknown person, or persons, had entered his residence and taken several items without permission. A broken window was noted by Deputies.

Once inside thieves allegedly took approximately 4 flat screen televisions, 1 laptop and 1 desk top PC, 2 game systems along with several games and miscellaneous accessories…

A disaster recovery center has opened (Thursday) in Troup County to help those whose homes, or businesses, were affected by recent storms and tornadoes. The center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days-a-week until further notice, at the Mike Daniel Recreation Center located at 1220 LaFayette Parkway, LaGrange, GA.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Georgia Emergency Management Agency and other agencies are available to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid. Recovery specialists also can help disaster survivors with referrals to other assistance programs.

Before going to a center, people with storm losses should register with FEMA online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA (3362). Those with speech or hearing impairment may call (TTY) 800-462-7585. Help is available in most languages.

Persons affected by the storms can also apply for federal assistance directly through a Web-enabled mobile device or smartphone. Visit m.fema.gov and follow the link to “apply online for federal assistance.”

Federal disaster assistance can include grants for rental assistance and home repairs, low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help recover from the effects of the disaster.
